Brake Rotors

Brake rotors or brake discs are the shiny things that you can see immediately behind your wheel. They have a very simple job, to be squeezed by the brake pad and stop the wheel. The brake pad squeezes the brake rotor which converts the rotational energy of the wheels into large amounts of heat. The brake rotors dissipate that heat through the cooling fins and across the surface of the brake rotor. Brake rotors should be closely inspected and replaced during brake pad replacement or brake jobs. Some rotors may be re-surfaced if they meet certain stringent criteria but its likely a wise idea to just replace the brake rotors when performing a brake job. Nobody likes to do a brake job twice so use quality parts and replace all items in question to ensure satisfaction and safety.
